For your young queer clients

Be aware of the disproportionately high rates of HIV among men who have sex with men, especially younger men, men of color, and those living in the US South.

• For an epidemiological perspective, AIDSVu has a fantastic map of the epidemic. Once there, you'll see multiple filters along the top gray bar. The first is age, the first option of which is 13-24. You can also filter by other characteristics, including race. After your filtered map loads, you'll be able to see county-level data about the youth HIV epidemic in the US.

Be aware of the things you might make assumptions about.

• Don't assume that queer women only have sex with other women.
• Don't assume that your client who's having sex with a woman is having sex with someone with a uterus.
• Don't assume that your client who's having sex with a man is having sex with someone with a penis.
• Don't assume that your bisexual or pansexual clients are having sex with everyone they can possibly get their hands on.
• Don't assume that your clients are monogamous.
• Don't assume that your queer clients are cisgender.
