• Take your young queer or trans person with you!
• Or, if you live in a vote-by-mail state, have them sit with you while you fill out your ballot.
• In both situations, talk to them about how you make the decisions you do on whom or what to vote for.

Lobby your elected representatives -- everything from your local city or town council up through the president. You do not need to be old enough to vote to do this!

Find out who your legislators are, from the local to the national, with a quick search through Common Cause.

• Let them know how their actions (or lack thereof) help or hurt you and the queer or trans young people in your life.
• You can call, email, send letters to, or ask to meet in-person with all of your representatives.
• Email can be the least effective way of registering your opinions, with in-person meetings and calls being more impactful.
• If you're an introvert like me and hate making phone calls, call them after hours so you can leave a voicemail. But be sure to include your address so they know you're a constituent.

Check out Voters of Tomorrow, a fantastic group of Gen Zers who are encouraging progressive activism among youth. Part of the issues they work on include queer and trans equality.

PFLAG is an amazing national (international, really) organization that supports parents and other allies of queer and trans people. This is the same organization to which i'm donating 50% of the proceeds from merch sales -- that's how much i love them.

Check out their website to see all they great things they do.

First, see if there's a chapter already in your area. If there isn't, consider visiting a nearby one and talking to them about what starting a chapter entails.

You can also become a PFLAG member.

• Attend marches and rallies.
• Write letters to the editor.
• Talk about queer or trans dis- and misinformation whenever you can.
• Shut down anything having to do with Donald Trump.
  • An example of such actions is described in this page. We were not, of course, successful in stopping his 2017 inauguration. But that specifically wasn't the point; disruption was.

If the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) or another organization plans to picket schools or other locations where queer or trans young people are likely to see them, show up to counter-protest so the young people in your community know they have support. There are legit arguments for ignoring WBC. But remember: you want to show the young people in your community that you support and celebrate them. Is ignoring WBC the way to do that?
