The rainbow pride colors are covered with water droplets.

School takes up an huge part of children's, tweens', and teens' lives. It's where they spend the plurality of their waking hours during the school year.

But unlike adults, who have some choice about where and with whom to work, young people generally have no say in which school they attend until college. (Of course, not everyone goes to college and, if they do, they don't always have a choice in which one.)

So schools are enormously important for queer and trans young people. Educational institutions can support, affirm, and foster queer and trans students — or they can make their students' lives miserable. Most schools fall somewhere in between.

In this section, you'll find ways your school can improve the experience it gives to queer and trans young people.
